The New Beginnings Project

The Need

For decades, the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) terrorized Northern Uganda abducting children, destroying families, and leaving communities fractured by violence. The women and girls who survived carry wounds that are not always visible. Trauma. Grief. Shame. Loss of identity.

The New Beginnings Project exists for them.

What We Do

New Beginnings provides a safe, structured environment for women and girls to heal fully. Not just from physical poverty, but from the inside out.

Our programming spans six phases Body, Mind, Soul, Emotion, Lifestyle, and Leadership and is delivered over approximately 12 months. Participants can live on-site or commute. Placement is individualized, based on personality and interest assessment. Because no two women heal the same way.

Programs Include:

• Psychosocial support and individual counseling
• Life skills, health, and nutrition education
• Vocational training: tailoring, hairdressing, poultry farming, and agriculture
• Leadership development
• Weekly radio outreach via Radio Rhino (Sundays) reaching the broader community
• Elementary school and New Beginnings Academy for Girls
• Child sponsorship: $25/month covers school fees, food, clothing, and supplies

What makes us different: Graduates of the program don't leave they stay as mentors for the next cohort. Healing becomes a cycle, not a transaction.

Our Safe House

New Beginnings operates a women's safe house that has provided refuge for survivors of sex slavery, torture, and domestic violence. This is not a shelter in name only. It is a place of genuine recovery and safety.
